The Foundation’s donation will have a profound impact on the center’s expanded classroom space to provide higher quality education programs and allow for a greater number of students visiting daily as well as enhanced distance learning

LAGUNA BEACH, CA, November 06, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Pacific Marine Mammal Center, PMMC, is thrilled to announce a landmark financial gift that will significantly impact our mission and further our commitment to ocean stewardship through animal rescue and rehabilitation, marine mammal research, STEM education programs, and advocacy for a healthy ocean.

Massen Greene Foundation, a prominent charitable organization, has generously donated $1 million to PMMC. This substantial financial gift represents an extraordinary act of generosity and a powerful endorsement of our work.

“We are deeply grateful to Massen Greene Foundation for their incredible support,” said PMMC CEO, Glenn Gray. “This transformative gift will enable us to expand our reach, enhance our programs, and make a lasting difference in the community we serve.”

“The Massen Greene Foundation was originally established by Richard C. Massen and Roland M. Greene. Richard and Roland respected the environment and supported environmental education,” stated Ken Solomon, Trustee, Massen Greene Foundation. “The Board of Directors believe that the $1 million pledge to promote the development of the Pacific Marine Mammal Center’s Educational Center is a great way to carry out Richard and Roland’s plans.”

Expanded Educational Center
The Foundation’s donation will have a profound impact on the center’s extensive renovation of the classroom space to provide higher quality education programs and allow for a greater number of students visiting daily as well as enhanced distance learning will allow us to broaden our reach outside of Orange County.

Additional improvements to the center include:
• A state-of-the-art treatment room for surgeries, endoscopy, ultrasound, radiographs and other medical needs.
• Additional patient units and pools will improve patient care and increase capacity, better preparing the hospital for busy periods.
• A new water reclamation system will reduce the center’s water usage by nearly 90%. The average daily use will be reduced from 18,000 gallons to approximately 1,500 and will fully reclaim 7,800 gallons of water in 3 hours. Ensures highest standards of clean water environment for animals.

These advancements will ensure that we lead in the marine mammal and regional environmental sectors for decades to come, and we invite the community to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion by visiting the center when we reopen to the public, Fall 2024.
